Straight A Student Rejected!

Straight A Student Rejected!

Don’t Let your child get denied by top Universities

There is a new fact about college admissions in the United States - students who have all As and score high on the SAT/ACT are not guaranteed admissions to top ranked colleges such as the Ivy Leagues, UC Berkeley and more. Why is this the case? These colleges and universities are looking for a special or unique student. This kind of student is:

  • Multi-dimensional and excels in areas beyond just academics
  • Able to discover his/her passions and has the courage to pursue them
Students whose parents were born outside the U.S. are not generally aware of this fact, which means most of these students will be disappointed about not being accepted to top colleges.

So, what can be done?

Start, by understanding the key issues:

1. While the higher education system (post high school) in the U.S is the best in the world, it is also very complex, constantly changing and competitive. Consider the following facts:
  • University of Chicago, ranked #3 in the country, made SAT/ACT scores optional in their admissions process
  • Average acceptance rate at Ivy Leagues is around 5% i.e. 1 out of 20 students
2. Top colleges look for a multi-dimensional student which includes academic excellence but is not considered the only item for admissions.
3. Parents born outside U.S. face additional challenges in guiding their children because they:
  • Are not familiar with middle schools, high schools and 4 year colleges in the U.S.
  • May have a limited view of the career opportunities in U.S.
  • May not be fully in tune with the U.S. culture and this creates a disconnect with their children.
4. Public high schools in the U.S. offer very little, if any, help in developing
a multi-dimensional child or in the college applications process.
Given these challenges what can you do? Consider engaging UCEazy proactively to help with:
  • Developing a multi-dimensional student in grades 8-10.
  • The college applications process in grades 11-12.
