Grade Specific Tips for April

Summer will be here soon. Below are some ideas on how students can continue moving forward during this month.

8th Graders

  • Prepare for the transition into high school because it can be challenging.
    • Understand the expectations for the first semester of high school.
    • Assess how prepared the student is for the social and academic changes.
  • Create a plan to use summer to build on your strengths and work on areas that need improvement.

9th Graders

  • Explore interests and passions to decide on extracurricular activities.
  • Create a plan to use summer to build on your strengths and work on areas that need improvement.

10th Graders

  • Assess your core values and interests so you can start thinking of potential careers and college majors.
  • Develop a plan for tests required by colleges.
  • Create a plan to use summer to build on your strengths and work on areas that need improvement.

11th Graders

  • Create a draft of college list. This is needed to plan campus visits and to create a plan for best use of your summer.
  • Manage time carefully over the next few stressful months while preparing for AP exams, final exams, and making plans for the SAT/ACT exams.

12th Graders

  • Most college admissions decisions will be communicated to you by April 1. Evaluate each college/university by critically analyzing them on various factors including academics, student’s personality and social/emotional needs of the student.
  • Decide on your strategy for responding to waitlist offers.
  • May 1st is College Decision Day. You would need to make a deposit on or before May 1st to reserve your senior’s place at the college he/she decides on.
