Biography

About George Mailat

I have worked with over 9,000 students throughout the admissions process, helping my students procure offers of admission and financial aid packages to hundreds of schools, including nearly every Ivy League, UC’s, Cal States’, and other top-ranked institutions within California and out of state.

I was born in Romania until immigrating to California at the age of 5. After coming to the United States, I struggled to assimilate to the new culture, language, and most importantly the education system. Having to navigate through these challenges as a first-generation student has allowed me to connect with students and families who are experiencing the same challenges.

I earned a bachelor’s degree and a graduate degree. I also want to be the first in my family to pursue a doctoral candidacy within the next three years. Although it was not always easy, I am proud to say that navigating through these challenging systems has allowed me to connect with my students and provide them with the mentorship necessary to achieve their academic and career goals.

Outside of work I love to travel to unique destinations and go off the beaten path. I have gone ziplining in three different countries and my favorite was ziplining over hundreds of alligators and crocodiles. My travels also include giving back to others, I recently went to Manchester England to help rebuild the second floor of a historical theater building that is now used as a basic goods resource.

Throughout these experiences and many more I have realized that we (every person) have more in common than we have in differences. Therefore, that is the approach I take whenever I am interacting with a new student and family. So, let’s get to know one another!

Education

  • BA, Sociology (Emphasis in Education) from California State University, Dominguez Hills
  • MPA, Public Policy and Administration from California State University, Long Beach
  • Graduate Certificate, Executive Leadership and Governance from University of Denver

Counseling Style

Let’s take it one step at a time!
I am here to help you attain your goals by outlining achievable goals as it relates to the bigger picture (your dream schools). I like to ensure that the goals we develop are broken down into achievable steps throughout this potentially stressful time to support my students. I believe it is critical that we are strategic with everything including every word that we use to highlight our students’ successes and challenges. I often find my students who achieve amazing feats in their lives do not showcase themselves correctly and consequently limit their opportunities for admissions. I am here to ensure that each of my students demonstrate the best versions of themselves throughout their pursuit of post-secondary education.

Testimonial

"George helped me navigate throughout the entire UC application and with his help I was accepted into all the UC’s I applied to, I ultimately decided on going to UCSD as a Civil Engineering Major!"

"Mr. Mailat was very interactive as he discussed what parents and students need to know about college, and how to best prepare for college. Parents and students were able to ask honest questions about topics they wanted to learn about and were able to discuss myths and truths. At the end of his 4-part series, post-workshop surveys showed that each of the 45 families who attended all gained a greater understanding of the college process."
