About Karen

As a career educator with more than 17 years of college planning experience, I specialize in college essay development, proper course selection, and fitting students into the most ideal university environment. I have been selected to speak at national events, published county-wide college planning workbooks that are still in use today, developed a multi-day college planning bootcamp, and visited hundreds of colleges and universities around the country.
I am highly active at the national and local levels of the college planning practice, interacting with colleagues in an array of environments to hone best practices and stay current with college selectivity, testing standards, and student development trends. This includes college admissions representatives and other critical college and university leaders.
Your child will receive unmatched attention and unique insight into how high school choices and personal achievements overlap with the widely varying admissions standards of today’s colleges.
For me, college counseling offers a semester of reasons to be passionate about working with high school students. Whether it’s the excitement a student experiences upon learning they’ve been accepted at their first choice or the sudden awakening of an anxious parent who for so long was nervous about allowing their first child to pilot the college planning journey, I am in it to help families learn together for the benefit of their graduating senior.

Karen was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and cared deeply for both my kids who are now at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business and Georgetown University. She guided them from the early stages of researching to the final stages of admission results. They are thriving in their studies and in life. We owe Karen a debt of gratitude and a ton of thanks forever!”

Hi Ms. Rowe, I have committed to UC Davis and I just wanted to give you a small token of gratitude for all the help you provided me during application season. Your feedback was extremely thoughtful and my application was enhanced by your edits. Again, thank you so much for everything and I hope you are able to enjoy this gift card!

“Karen offers the ultimate scaffolding- both emotionally and practically to kids and parents. I emailed her on a Sunday about the University of St Andrews and within an hour she had responses from her college counseling community and a personal introduction to a person whose child is also attending this fine school. I have spoken to other parents who have sung her praises, as well. One actually said she feels she won the lottery having Karen at SBA.”

“I went to Karen feeling completely confused, not knowing what I was looking for in a university and did not understand how the application process worked. She took my motivation and excitement for the future and helped me find the perfect fit. Thanks for helping me find my home away from home Karen!”

“Karen has toured and gained knowledge about many different types of colleges and is excellent in matching your child with the right school. Her genuine and enthusiastic personality was a great asset in the strong connection she made with my son and he is extremely happy at Duke University.”
