Aliya is an empathetic, student-centered, and experienced counselor. She earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. With over a decade of experience in college counseling and admissions, Aliya has worked in both elite independent schools and public schools in under resourced communities. She’s served as a key member of the Johns Hopkins University admissions committee in addition to other private universities.
Throughout my career in education, I have gained invaluable experience in both college counseling and admissions. I have read thousands of student’s applications for a variety of majors; STEM fields, liberal arts, and many who were undecided. My years in admissions have provided me the unique ability to guide students towards their next academic venture. I have realized that my true passion is counseling students in their college search. My experience provides me with advanced knowledge in how to strategically craft a compelling and competitive college application for highly selective schools.
I am incredibly passionate about the field of college counseling, and most importantly, promoting an individualized college process, in order to connect families and students with their right fit. To me, one of the most important aspects of the college process is to minimize anxiety as we navigate each component of the overall process. Personally, my college process was not tailored to best fit, and my experiences motivate me to ensure that families and students feel heard and valued.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, volunteering with various community organizations, and swimming. I was a collegiate athlete and founding member of my undergraduate swim team, and I continue to use my passion for the sport as a volunteer with the Special Olympics.
