Aliya is an empathetic counselor who earned her Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. She currently serves as a key member of the Hopkins admissions committee in addition to other private universities. Additionally, she works with both elite independent and public schools.
Throughout my career in education, I have gained invaluable experience in both college counseling and admissions. I have read thousands of student’s applications for a variety of majors; STEM fields, liberal arts, and many who were undecided. My years in admissions have provided me the unique ability to guide students towards their next academic venture. I have realized that my true passion is counseling students in their college search. My experience provides me with advanced knowledge in how to strategically craft a compelling and competitive college application for highly selective schools.
I am incredibly passionate about the field of college counseling, and most importantly, promoting an individualized college process, in order to connect families and students with their right fit. To me, one of the most important aspects of the college process is to minimize anxiety as we navigate each component of the overall process. Personally, my college process was not tailored to best fit, and my experiences motivate me to ensure that families and students feel heard and valued.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, volunteering with various community organizations, and swimming. I was a collegiate athlete and founding member of my undergraduate swim team, and I continue to use my passion for the sport as a volunteer with the Special Olympics.

“We would be remiss if we did not sing Aliya praises to the rafters. During her time at Berkeley she got to know the students and families, provided excellent college counseling and support, followed up with zoom meetings and answered questions–and she’s done all of this with such kindness, professionalism, good cheer, and obvious caring.”

“Thank you for always being one of my biggest supporters during this cutthroat process. You have no idea the impact you had on me and I’m forever grateful for all you’ve done for me. Other than being the best college counselor, you’ve been just someone to talk to when I was feeling overwhelmed and I will always appreciate the sigh of relief I always had after our conversations.”

“I have had the best experience with you as my counselor, and I am so sad I will not have you as my counselor next year. You knew me so well and it was so wonderful to have such an encouraging and involved counselor!! I never thought that we could build a college list that I was actually excited about, to where schools I was not even considering were a great fit for me. Also, thank you so much for being so kind to me and encouraging me to continue to pursue all of my volunteer activities, because I am passionate about them. I am so honored to be a recipient of the service award, and know that I would not be as confident about the college process without you.”
