Allen is an experienced counselor who recently received his master’s degree in Higher Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Before Harvard, Allen worked in highly selective college admissions at Davidson College and has also served as an external application reader at Stanford University and UC Berkeley.
I am passionate about my work with students and gain fulfillment in helping find a great college home for each individual. I have worked in admissions at several highly selective institutions with students from across the United States and internationally. I understand the meaning of a holistic application review and how students can present the best picture of themselves to an admissions committee.
I practice a student-centered approach to college counseling in which students own every part of the process—from brainstorming and exploring different college environments to making a final decision about where they will spend their next four years. While college admissions is often characterized as stress-inducing, I believe that the search and application process can be meaningful and enjoyable for all parties involved.
Outside of work, I enjoy live theatre, tennis, and spending time with family and friends. While not generally a big sports fan, I am a fervent supporter of the Davidson Wildcats and Golden State Warriors.
