"Helping students succeed, one dream at a time," is my mantra! I'm from Michigan originally but have traveled to every state, except Alaska, at least once. As a first generation college student at California State University, Long Beach I was heavily involved in campus activities and truly enjoyed my undergraduate experience. I am a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and still volunteer for this premiere women's organization as a College Chapter Director. Now as a college and career counselor, I am passionate about helping first generation students find the college of their dreams. I taught high school English for many years and I believe that writing a strong application or scholarship essay is about showing each applicant’s potential through sharing their stories. I am proficient in the admissions process, understand wait-list procedures in place, and I'm a pro at the FAFSA. I have visited many colleges and universities that participate in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) which provides out of state scholarships. As a parent, I have helped my two sons find their college fit at Northern Arizona University and the University of Kansas. I am married to an immigrant from Ireland who was educated at University College Cork and I have two dogs that help fill my empty nest in southern California.

“Mrs. Collins’ active involvement in my academics throughout my four years in high school and even post graduation were pivotal in my being able to attend my dream university. During my junior and senior year I relied on Mrs Collins’s instructions and advice regarding college applications to understand and develop my own plan of action. As a first generation college student I had no idea what to expect after high school and this experience became less daunting because I knew I could count on Mrs. Collins for guidance.”

“Not only is Mrs. Collins an excellent and hard-working counselor, but she has always dedicated herself to enriching the lives of students. Her enthusiasm and support has given me the confidence to excel in high school and get accepted into a better college. I was very stressed at the time when I was applying for different colleges, but Mrs. Collins gave efficient resources and wonderful emotional support. She is very involved and will do anything out of her way to make sure all students are doing well whether it is helping them through FAFSA, selecting classes, writing recommendations, college applications, etc. I know I can always rely on Mrs. Collins for help even when I am in college. She is truly special for her compassion and commitment to helping others at every step. She has enlightened the lives of many students, including mine.”

“We began discussing college options with Gail Collins when my daughter was finishing her 8th grade school year. Gail Collins discussed my student’s expectations for the next four years and her goals for when she completed high school. Gail took the time to get a clear understanding of my daughter’s personality, academic skills, the type of college experience she was hoping for, and helped her formulate a plan for the next four years. She continues to discuss college plans through email, alerting us to potential universities and summer programs that may be of interest. Mrs. Collins is highly knowledgeable and clearly invested in the success of the students she meets.”
