Born to immigrant parents, I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication, I worked in California as an Spanish Instructor. For the past 15 years, I have worked as a counselor at a top ranked high school in the LA area. I work closely with students and families who have come from across the globe, including places such as Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. It is my goal to guide students of all backgrounds and academic abilities for success in college, whether it be at an Ivy League school or a public university.
I believe it is crucial for adolescents today to plot a course early on in their high school career in order to obtain the best results in achieving their desired outcomes. I am passionate and enthusiastic in assisting students reach their dreams, even if it seems like a stretch.

“I can’t count the number of times I went to Mr.Ireta for advice- about college, classes, and scholarships. He is incredibly kind, patient, and knowledgeable. There were a number of times that I applied to scholarships at the last minute, as that was the only way I could afford college. I would frantically come into the office and there was Mr.Ireta- calm and ready to help me in whatever way was necessary. He knows that ins and outs of the college system and often goes out of his way to prepare students for the college application process. He didn’t have to deal with my frequent unscheduled arrivals at his office, but in his patience and drive to help students succeed, he would welcome me to take a seat and talk through whatever I was having trouble with. I know that I am where I am today because of how Mr.Ireta got to know me personally and went above and beyond to ensure my success!”

“The first time I had a conversation with Mr. Ireta was when I was in 8th grade and just beginning to think about the next four years and college after that. From the very beginning, Mr. Ireta was a guide to me and I can positively say that throughout my high school experience at Newbury Park High School, Mr. Ireta was always there to guide me, whether that be about preliminary questions about college or when I got serious about college applications in my junior year. With his guidance and enthusiasm, the college admission process was made easy and surprisingly fun. I truly have to say that a major contributor to the fact that I was admitted to UC Berkeley, where I currently study, was Mr. Ireta.”

“While in high school, I knew I had the grades to attend college; unfortunately, I also knew I lacked the financial resources to do so. I was fortunate enough to meet Jose Ireta, who guided me through the college application process, wrote letters of recommendation, and helped me obtain the Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship. Because of his hard work and dedication I have been able to pursue my educational dreams.”

Mr. Ireta was always willing to entertain my crazy ideas and thought outside of the box to make things work for me. Because of him, I had the opportunity to do all that I wanted to do in high school. His willingness to go above and beyond really means the world to me. I couldn’t have asked for a better counselor. My academic advisor at USC has big shoes to fill!
– Adrianna R. NPHS Class of 2016, USC Class of 2020
The moment I met Mr. Ireta, I knew that he was kind and hardworking. At that time, I had no idea how much he would end up doing for me over the next few years of high school. He was honestly the most accessible counselor ever. I knew that I could walk into his office at any time and he would talk with me about whatever was on my mind, from our chats in Spanish to our discussions on Indian culture, I am glad that I also got to know Mr. Ireta as the fascinating and energetic man that he is. I owe a lot of my success in the college application process to his commitment and reliability as my mentor. I couldn’t have gotten everything done without him. Stanford University was a huge victory and Mr. Ireta deserves a lot of credit for his commitment.

Dear Mr. Ireta,
I would like to let you know that my son, Christopher is accepted to Stanford. And I believe he is going to accept the offer.
I would like to say thank you for everything you have done for my son since freshman. Without your guidance, support and dedication, he will not be where he is today. We are extremely lucky and grateful to have you as his counselor.
