About Melissa

Promoting higher education and assisting families with navigating the college admissions process is my passion! Growing up, my mother always stressed the importance of education. However, because she immigrated to the United States as a young adult, she didn’t understand all of the intricacies involved with applying to college. Her emphasis on education motivated me throughout my educational path, and once I graduated college, I knew I wanted a career supporting students on their university journey. Over 12 years later in my profession, I’m honored to do the work that I do and love the world of college admissions!

My professional path has provided me with a unique perspective and understanding of the college admissions experience from a variety of different angles. I have worked in college recruitment, where I recruited students to attend a four-year university; worked in university student services providing transitional support for admitted students; and in my current position, I provide counseling services to high school students applying to universities. I have assisted countless high school and college students with the admissions process and I enjoy helping them to develop a realistic plan for success. I not only provide these students with pre-admissions counseling, but I also assist and support these students with choosing the pathway that best fits their interests and educational or career goals. I provide my students with the framework and resources necessary to make informed decisions about their educational paths. Some of the universities to which my students have been accepted include Columbia, Barnard, USC, all of the UCs and CSUs, and many more. I also consider myself a life-long learner, and I am committed to staying current on college admission, financial aid, and standardized testing trends and strategies.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our baby girl. I love yoga, spinning, cooking, and traveling. I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful family and to be able to do what I love each and every day.

Counseling Style

My students come first above all else in the journey that is college admissions. I always try to put myself in the shoes of the students and parents that I work with, as I understand first-hand that navigating the process can be difficult and overwhelming. I strive to streamline the college pathway by breaking it down into actionable items that are simple and easy to follow. Every student I work with is unique and amazing and my goal is to help them highlight their attributes to make them competitive applicants while also allowing them to stay true to their individual interests and passions. I see my role as being an applicant’s personalized escort and facilitator of resources with the application process, however, it’s also important to me that students take ownership and make it truly their own. That is what makes it a transformative experience and such an exciting time in their lives for self-discovery

I am so grateful to have picked Melissa to work with. She is very knowledgeable and has always gone above and beyond to answer any questions or meet any need that I have. I always knew that if I sent her an email it would be answered promptly and efficiently. I trust her with the pathway of my education…and that is saying a LOT!

Thank you Melissa!!
