About Sharon

I am an effective high school success and college admissions coach. I understand parental and student stress about the admissions process. My career mission has always been about access. I am also a dedicated proponent of students participating in Gap Years, studying abroad and co-op programs.

I have worked for over 30 years in supporting students and anxious parents through the admissions process.

I have visited hundreds of college campuses and am committed to helping families understand the process and helping students find the best college for them.

College Admissions is not supposed to be as arduous and stressful as many make it. It’s all about common sense and preparation!

Sharon Cravanas is a perfect blend of counselor, advisor, and mentor. Her engagement around the college process is thorough and comprehensive. It results in expanding the horizons of the young people with whom she works, while also coaching the parents on the sometimes difficult transition from manager to mentor.
Sharon has traveled internationally on a quest to identify environments where her students can thrive as collegians and she’s magical about the whole package, particularly personal statement topics. Sharon has the combination of decades of experience in a variety of educational settings (charter, public, independent), application review from the most discerning entities, and an urban sensibility that allows her to straddle the ever emotional worlds of who’s going where to study what. She is one of the few counselors who really gets it when she talks about “fit.”
Sharon Cravanas coached both my daughters, and encouraged me to trust the young women I had raised to experience this process holistically and without angst. Here’s what options my second born ended up with (first daughter was Early Decision at Barnard) — UPenn, Northwestern, Harvard, Oberlin, Tufts, Columbia and Barnard. Ms. Cravanas is a gifted visionary and I wholeheartedly recommend her as a college admissions coach and counselor.

“Sharon Cravanas was a blessing of a college counselor for our family. “……”Her calm and delightful demeanor is just what my son needed for this stressful experience during his college application process and put my son at ease. Her knowledge of various schools throughout the country seemed infinite and she helped my son tailor a school to his needs and personality with her broad understanding of schools large and small. Our family feels deeply indebted to Sharon as she was available to us via phone or personal meeting almost on a moment’s notice to assist us in navigating through the college application process. I had originally interviewed 6 counselors settled on one and later through luck met Sharon who was clearly heads and shoulders above them all! Our family can’t thank Sharon enough for putting her heart and soul into her work for our benefit.”
