Biography

About Spencer

Spencer was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and attended local colleges for my post-secondary education.

I have worked with High School students since 2000 as a mentor, coach, substitute teacher, and counselor. 4 years ago, I was given the opportunity to build, develop, and implement a College Counseling program for the first time in my District. I have created an environment in my high school College & Career Center that is both inviting and welcome to any students or parents as well as providing thorough college, career, and financial aid counseling. Over the years, I have seen many changes in Higher Education and have worked hard to stay current on college admissions criteria and requirements.

Outside of school, my life revolves around my wonderful wife and our 2-year-old daughter. We love to spend time outdoors and exploring our country.

Philosophy

Finding the right college/university for the student is a time-consuming, but worthy process. Every student possesses a different set of circumstances, experiences, backgrounds, beliefs, etc. that makes them who they are. These aspects, and many many others, provide a foundation for where to begin the college path. I pride myself in helping students look within themselves to find the aspects they most want in a post-secondary institution.

My philosophy further focuses on helping the student match their career goals and aspirations to a college/university that can steer them in that direction. I focus on finding schools that can provide the student with ample opportunities and experiences – not just within the academic walls, but beyond the borders of the campus. In many ways, I don’t believe the name of the college on their diploma means as much as the experiences gained during the student’s time in school.
