Timely Tips for November

Timely Tips for November

The holidays are upon us, even if they look different this year. While students will be spending time celebrating, it is important for them to stay on track with their academics and extracurricular activities. Below are some tips from the UCEazy Experts to help students in 8th-12th grades.

Grades 8-10

Study tips for finals:

  • Communicate:
    • Use your teachers’ office hours to ask about a study guide. If one is not given, create one (and include peers). When in doubt, always ask your teacher for help.
    • Be sure to check your draft of the study guide with your teacher to see what improvements are needed.
  • Organize:
    • Gather notes from class lectures, textbooks and previous tests/quizzes.
    • Clarify with your teacher on the content that will be covered on the exam.
  • Plan:
    • Research shows that cramming is not an efficient way to study. Preparing for your exams weeks before the finals allows you to store the knowledge long term. It also decreases your test anxiety because you feel more prepared.
  • Collaborate:During distance learning, it is easy to feel isolated, especially while preparing for finals. Form small study groups with friends and peers from your classes. Find consistent times and invite your classmates to join.
  • Review:
    • Use your time efficiently by reviewing all materials free from distractions.

11th Graders

  • Review your grades to make sure they are where you want them to be mid-way through the semester.
  • Evaluate your involvement in clubs and extracurricular activities (on-line or in-person) to determine if you need to become more involved. If so, where are the best fits?
  • Make sure to register for AP exams that will take place in May.

12th Graders

  • Review your grades to make sure they are where you want them to be mid-way through the semester.
  • Submit any college applications before the deadline.
  • Send your standardized test scores (if applicable) and transcript to colleges.
  • Fill out the FAFSA and/or CSS Profile for colleges if applicable.
